2026 Chinese Language Program Admissions Guide for International Students
The College of International Education at Northwest A&F University offers a year-round “Chinese Language and Culture” training program, with two semester options:
Spring–Summer Semester: Late February to late June
Autumn–Winter Semester: Early September to mid-to-late January of the following year
Students are placed into appropriate classes based on a placement test taken upon arrival. Each semester includes 17–18 weeks of instruction, with 18 hours of compulsory Chinese language courses per week. Additionally, students may choose 1–2 elective courses each semester based on their interests and language proficiency. Those who complete the required coursework and pass all assessments will be awarded a Certificate of Chinese Language Training.
Beyond classroom learning, the university organizes cultural excursions and encourages students to participate in clubs and interact with Chinese students for a well-rounded campus experience.
1. Course Structure
Beginner Level (Levels 1–3)
Target group: Students with no prior knowledge or basic ability in Chinese
Goals: Develop interest in the language and build foundational listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills
Curriculum:
Compulsory (18 hrs/week): Intensive Reading (10), Speaking (4), Listening (4)
Electives (2–4 hrs/week): Chinese Characters, Chinese Stories, Traditional Dance, etc.
Intermediate Level (Levels 4–5)
Target group: Students with basic spoken communication skills
Goals: Strengthen reading and writing skills, expand real-world language usage
Curriculum: Compulsory (18 hrs/week): Intensive Reading (8), Speaking (4), Reading (4), Writing (2) Electives (2–4 hrs/week): Chinese Cities, Chinese Films, Traditional Music, Practical Writing, HSK Preparation, etc.
2. Application Period
Applications open now and will close on May 15, 2026
Note: Applicants must complete the online application, submit all required documents, and pay the application fee before the deadline.
3. Fees
Application Fee: RMB 400 (non-refundable)
Tuition Fee: RMB 6,400 per semester / RMB 12,800 per year
Medical Insurance: RMB 400 per semester (mandatory for all international students)
On-campus Accommodation: RMB 6000 per year
Payment Method: Please transfer fees to the university’s designated bank account and upload the remittance receipt to the application system.
4. Eligibility
Aged 18 to 65
In good physical and mental health
Holder of a high school diploma or above
5. Application Procedure
² Register: Create an account in the NWAFU International Student Application System
² Apply: Fill out the “Application Form for Chinese Language Student” and upload passport information
² If previously studied in mainland China: Upload proof of study (e.g., completion certificate, training certificate)
² If currently studying in China: Upload proof of enrollment, including attendance rate
² Pay application fee: Submit RMB 400 online
² Check result: Log into the system to check admission status
² Pay tuition: Admitted students must pay one semester’s tuition (RMB 6,400) within the specified period
² Placement test: After payment, students will receive an email with instructions to take the online Chinese placement test
Note: Incomplete materials or failure to complete the application process will result in disqualification.
6. Admission and Notification
The university will review all application materials and select candidates based on merit;
Upon payment of tuition, admission documents and visa application forms will be issued;
Further details on registration, housing, insurance, etc., will be sent via email.
Important Reminders:
Always indicate your application number and name when transferring payments
Tuition is non-refundable if a student withdraws after admission for personal reasons
Failure to meet eligibility at registration will result in cancellation of admission, and all fees will be forfeited
7. Registration
New students must register at NWAFU on the date specified in the Admission Notice
Expected arrival time: Early September 2026 (subject to change based on the notice)
8. Medical Insurance and Physical Examination
Medical Insurance:
According to Ministry of Education regulations, international students must purchase comprehensive medical insurance in mainland China. Students without valid insurance will not be permitted to register. Instructions will be provided before arrival.
Health Check Requirements:
Students studying in China for over 6 months must complete a Foreigner Physical Examination Form. This can be done in the home country (must include Chinese translation) or at a designated facility after arrival.
If a student is diagnosed with a disease listed in China’s entry restriction regulations, they will be required to leave the country immediately.
